A piece of paper money (especially one issued by a central bank); "He peeled off ten one-hundred-dollar notes". Notes, also called banknotes are fiat money not backed by anything tangible like gold and/or silver.
Another definition of note is a promise to pay a specified amount on demand or at a certain time; "I had to co-sign his promissory note at the bank".
